How To Get The Best Out Of Your Staff
“Employees who believe that management is concerned about them as a whole person – not just an employee – are more productive, more satisfied, more fulfilled. Satisfied employees mean satisfied customers, which leads to profitability.” – Anne M. Mulcahy, Former CEO, Xerox
Recognition and praise are fundamental to keeping employees motivated and excited about their jobs. However, as managers we often get caught up in the idea that saying thank you once a year at the Christmas party is enough.
Research shows that staff who feel recognised are far more engaged in their work, which can make a big difference to your pharmacy’s bottom line. Employers who praise their staff regularly often notice increased productivity and higher customer satisfaction levels because staff are more invested in their role, and therefore more interested in contributing to the business. Staff who feel valued are also more inclined to stay in their role for longer.
So how can you recognise your staff? Here are a few tips:
- Let a staff member know they have done a great job by telling them so
- If you have an internal newsletter, list staff achievements
- Acknowledge and celebrate birthdays and other milestones (engagements, weddings, births etc.)
- Give employees who have achieved a business goal a pin or badge as reminder
- Organise training and other upskilling opportunities
One such education and training opportunity for pharmacy staff is the Pharmacy Assistant National Conference, which is being held from 15-17 October on the Gold Coast. For pharmacy assistants, the conference provides a forum to gain product knowledge, personal and professional development and management skills, and to learn from the sharing of knowledge and experiences of other pharmacy assistants.
For employers, the conference is an excellent way to acknowledge hardworking and dedicated staff. Employees will return to the pharmacy refreshed and full of new ideas and knowledge ready to put back into your business.
Pharmacies which send two or more staff to the conference will receive a free APP2016 registration. For more details or to register now visit www.pharmacyassistants.com.
