Medlab Clinical launches NanaBis via the Medicinal Cannabis Medicines Portal

PharmaPrograms is delighted to welcome Medlab Clinical to the Medicinal Cannabis Medicines Portal (MCMP) ( Medlab Clinical is pleased to confirm that NanaBis™ will be available via the MCMP from today 26 April 2018.

NanaBis™ is a Non – ARTG schedule 8 medication, which is used to improve symptoms related to intractable pain in cancer patients. NanaBis™ is currently in clinical trial, and is available under the Approved Prescriber Scheme (APS) and Special Access Scheme (SAS) Category B through the MCMP.

Cannabis sativa L. / Cannabis indica L. oil extract (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol), Oromucosal Spray 15 mL.

What Do Pharmacies Need to Do?

Prior to ordering NanaBis™ for patients, network pharmacies will need to open an account with Medlab Clinical. This should be done as soon as possible to ensure the pharmacy is ready for the first patient request.

As part of the account opening procedure pharmacies need to include evidence to show the pharmacy’s qualification for storing and handling schedule 8 controlled drugs, i.e. Pharmacy Registration Certificate.

If your state health department does not issue Pharmacy registration certificates, please provide both the Agreement with Medicare and the Owner pharmacist’s AHPRA registration certificate (name to match pharmacist listed on Medicare Agreement).

In addition to facilitating supply, a structured pharmacy support program is an integral part of the MCMP. This online portal provides a streamlined process for medicinal cannabis prescribing and dispensing between Health Professionals and Manufacturers of medicinal cannabis.

The MCMP ensures a continuity of care between patients, carers, and their existing health professionals.
